Color Your Mood

Filed under: Health and Fitness by admin

Ever wondered why purple signifies royalty? Takes a leap into the color pool in an attempt to explore its myriad interpretations. Stop at red, go at green, is the first rule of the road. Each hue alludes to different contexts and references. It’s interesting to note the affiliation of colors and emotions.

COLOR CODES

Seeing red implies anger and rage. Let us explore how this association of the color red with an emotion came about. The lowest of the colors in the spectrum, red is warm and typically stands for danger, violence and anger. On the positive side, red also denotes courage and passion. Green, on the other hand, falls in the middle of the spectrum and acts as a “balancer” between the warm and cool colors. Green is also associated with healing. “Draping green curtains in patients rooms expediates the healing process. For this reason, operation theatres world wide have green curtains and doctors usually wear green when operating”.

However, not all colors have universal symbolism. Across cultures, colors imply different emotions and occasions. White is the color of mourning in oriental cultures while in the West, white is the color of the virgin bride. The Indian bride traditionally wears red, as a testament to her fertility. While many cultures treat black as a color of mourning. Purple dyes were rare a couple of centuries ago, which made them expensive. Only royalty had access to them, often receiving purple dyed fabrics as gifts, giving it its “royal” status.

HEALING TOUCHES

Chromotherapy

Color therapy or chromotherapy, is essentially an alternative complementary method of treatment using the healing properties of color and light. The basis of the therapy is that colors bring about emotions in people and these colors can be used in the form of light to balance the body’s energies. Color is essentially light of varying wavelengths, giving each color its separate wavelength and energy. The seven colors of the spectrum are associated with seven chakra or spiritual centers in the body that emit different energies. For instance, red is associated with the root chakra while violet is assigned to the crown chakra.

Pranic healing

Pranic healing is another discipline that uses colors to alleviate problems. It is intended to be a complementary treatment. The aura envelops the physical body and pulsates. Auras are of different shapes and colors. When a person is balanced, the aura is in uniform colors of similar frequencies and wavelengths. Sickness or imbalances can be determined. Dark shapes, holes, cracks or entanglements in the aura determine what is disturbing the person. A sick person will have a narrow aura that does not pulsate. Advanced Pranic Healing makes use of color prana, that involves projecting colored pranas on an individual for the purpose of healing. We are all beings of light. Lights in our body have wavelengths of different colors. With regards to color prana, focusing a particular light on the body concentrates energies and has even been shown to increase blood count.

EMOTIVE COLORS

Colors have both positive a negative qualities attached to them. However, the positives far outnumber the negative connotations. And even though exposure to a particular color can help balance any irregularities in the system, too much of one color can have negative effects. Navy blue initially helps in being practical, but prolonged use causes depression. Yellow helps in lifting spirits when feeling down, but prolonged use makes a person argumentative. Wearing red gives energy, but too much of it can cause anger to surface. When feeling lazy and sluggish-orange is the panacea. But sustained use makes a person irritable. Black absorbs and retains so it is very difficult to let go of negative feelings if you wear too such black. Imbibing a particular colors does alter physical and mental states. Colors does everything-even health. From personal experience I have seen that wearing white over a long period of time makes a person detached from worldly desires and maintain an emotional distance.

Colors have far more applications than just in paint, pigments and clothes. They also have a spiritual facet and a healing side.
